Librarian's Update
Haynesfield Hurricanes Read Their Way to the Winter Olympics!
When school began in August, we challenged our students to “Jump on the Reading Bus” and read enough books to travel 7,500 miles from Bristol, TN to Beijing, China in time for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Reading points were counted as “miles” toward our goal. K-1 students received a point (mile) for every book they read. Students in grades 2-5 earned points (miles) by taking AR reading practice quizzes.
We Made it! By the time the Winter Olympics began, we had already earned more than 10,000 points. At the closing of the Winter Olympics on February 20, Haynesfield students have amassed 12,162 reading points! Can we read our way Back to Haynesfield? Only 2,838 more points to go!
This year’s AR reading incentives will close on Saturday, April 30. Students will receive trophies, medals, and other prizes for points earned by that day. Thank you for encouraging your student “Go for the Gold” and improve their reading skills.
Read Across America Week Celebrates Reading February 28-March 4!
Haynesfield Hurricanes will join schools and communities across America to celebrate a week of reading, February 28-March 4. What originally began as a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday (March 2) has grown to represent so much more.
Next week our Haynesfield students will celebrate reading with dress-up days and special activities. See the flyer for more information. Please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a day or time for you to come read in person! Community members may contact Mrs. Egeler (Librarian) at egelerp@btcs.org
