Communities in Schools

The Communities in Schools (CIS) initiative enhances the overall well-being of our students, fostering a stronger connection between our schools and families, and providing essential support to ensure every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

BTCS is partnering with CIS to provide a student support coordinator in each of the five elementary schools, Tennessee Middle School, and Tennessee High School.

Purpose of Communities in Schools

CIS is a nationwide organization committed to empowering students to succeed in school and in life. By embedding CIS staff members within our schools, we are reinforcing our commitment to holistic student development. The primary goals of our CIS program are as follows:

Support Family Engagement Activities

Our CIS staff members work closely with families to encourage and facilitate their active involvement in their child's education. This includes organizing workshops, events, and programs that strengthen the parent-school partnership.

Support Attendance

CIS staff collaborate with school staff to monitor and improve overall attendance rates. They also address individual attendance challenges, providing targeted interventions to ensure students are present and engaged in their learning.

Connect Students and Families to Resources

In addition to counselors, CIS staff serve as a vital link to connect families to the district Family Resource Center for resources.

Support a Caseload of 60 Students Per School

Each CIS staff member works with a caseload of 60 students per school. This personalized approach allows them to address the unique academic, behavioral, and attendance needs of each student, providing targeted support to help them succeed.

We believe that the presence of CIS staff in our schools will significantly contribute to positive school cultures creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment. By fostering strong relationships with students, families, and our school community, we aim to remove barriers to success and ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and their families.
